Bathed in the midnight aurora over Manul Town, seven-year-old Nori gazed up at Amber Academy and secretly vowed to become a chief shapeshifter like her great-grandmother.
But once she actually set foot in Amber Academy, she found the path of shapeshifting strewn with thorns and pitfalls at every turn. During her Concealment exam, the snow fox she had turned into out in the snowfield flaunted a fluffy, glow-in-the-dark rainbow tail flashier than a peacock’s. In Foraging class, when everyone else turned into nimble little monkeys, she turned into a giant sloth and flattened an entire orchard, so the whole class came back with just three shriveled berries… Fiascos like these happened again and again, and at graduation, while her classmates’ edelweiss badges lit up one after another, Nori’s alone stayed dim.
Even after leaving school, Nori’s knack for mortifying herself in public kept producing all sorts of mishaps that left people not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Then one day, while working as a prop master following a film crew, she met a staff member from VirtuaReal, which was partnering on the production. As this staffer went around shaking hands with everyone, Nori reached out and instantly conjured a giant black cat plushie that knocked them flat; at the same time, her tail turned into an octopus tentacle and swept the staffer into a pile of trash—and she turned the business card she’d been handed into an invitation from VirtuaReal.
“You’re great entertainment, and it seems like fate brought us together. Most importantly, the things you do without thinking are exactly the kind of thing our viewers love to see—you’ve got a real gift for streaming! Why not come give it a try with us?” said the staffer, after struggling out of the trash pile.
More to come. Stay tuned.
