Down a narrow lane on the south side of the city, there’s a tiny film camera shop.
Everyone in the neighborhood knows that business there is outrageously bad, while the owner is outrageously handsome. The ghosts that roam the shadows know, too, that the place brims with mouthwatering spiritual power, while its owner is suffocatingly strong.
Naturally—how could the future king of the ghost clan, living in seclusion on a street corner, not have something exceptional about him? That single ghostly eye of his alone, which seems capable of luring people into the abyss, not only lets him see where the human and ghost realms meet, but also lets him pass freely between the two worlds and draw on the powers of both light and darkness.
He is a once-in-a-millennium prodigy of the ghost realm, destined to guide the fate of both the human and ghost worlds. And yet his own fate, like a withered leaf caught in turbulent currents, never seems to drift into the palm of his hand.
His mother united with a human and gave birth to him—a half-blood child born of taboo. The myriad ghosts who covet the position of the Ghost King’s heir scorn his origins, yet they also bitterly resent his heaven-sent talent and are forever looking for a way to kill him. The current Ghost King, wary of the threat he poses, cast him into this unfamiliar human city—to be groomed, supposedly, but in truth, exiled…
Yet he’s having a fine time of it. He’s utterly enchanted by the ingenious gadgets humans have invented, and above all, he adores film cameras, which have long since gone out of fashion.
A wandering Ghost King, despised by his own kind. A film camera, cast aside by the times. He gently presses the shutter, and the colorful human world in the lens quietly lights up his eye.
“Maybe we’re the ones who were born to be partners.”
More to come. Stay tuned.
