On a green mountain hidden deep among layer upon layer of peaks, a family of tomb guardians has lived for generations. No one knows anymore whose tomb the family is actually guarding; all the family records say is that they are supposedly descended from a great master of the yin-yang arts whose name went down in history.
Though the family’s original mission has long been veiled in the mists of time, the yin-yang arts handed down by their forebears have still earned them quite a reputation, and people often travel from far and wide to draw fortune sticks and have divinations cast. The only trouble is that the little master on duty in the ancestral hall is often caught slacking off and dozing. Whenever someone brings it up, Susu can’t help blushing, before protesting, “It’s because the ancestors saw I wasn’t keeping up with my studies, so they pulled me into my dreams to guide my training!”
Ever since she was little, Susu has been troubled by a heavenly eye she can’t control: she often peers into the realms of yin and yang, beholds the Way of Heaven, and even gazes upon figures no human should ever come into contact with. The family elders tried every technique they knew, to little avail, and even considered the drastic measure of blinding her and sealing her heavenly eye to save her life.
Fortunately, during one bout of sleepwalking, Susu brought back an ancient bagua mirror from who knows where, and all her problems were solved at a stroke. Ever since, the bagua mirror has hung on Susu’s chest.
Now, however, Susu’s training has hit a bottleneck, and she can’t make an inch of progress. So she had no choice but to seek advice from the clan elders once again.
“If you have never entered the world, how can you hope to transcend it?”
And so Susu packed her bags and set off on her journey into the world, her elders watching her go with worried eyes. What they don’t know, though, is that it isn’t that Susu has never entered the world—she just hasn’t entered it enough. She has long since snuck out beyond the mountain many times.
More to come. Stay tuned.
