VirtuaReal’s new members revealed! We’re always recruiting~

“Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz—”

A table, a group of people, an old clock,

and a beat-up air conditioner endlessly churning out noise and cold air

“Weren’t the new members supposed to be here today? Why haven’t they shown up yet? Look how many people are waiting outside the office!”

“Easy, easy—just hold your horses! Listen, they’re on their way; traffic’s just a little backed up. Why don’t you take a look at this file in the meantime?”

• Leo

This big kitty was next in line to lead a lion pride in the Savanna World, but his pure-white fur was seen as an omen of bad luck, and he was driven out of the tribe. He thought he’d been handed the same script as Simba in The Lion King, but then he slipped and fell off a cliff during a hunt. He was sure there’d be a mysterious old master waiting at the bottom of the cliff, but instead he was whisked away to the human world, losing his sleek, glossy fur—

His three short years of lionhood are a little painful to look back on, but after arriving in this new world, our lion discovered something wonderful: music. With his naturally booming voice and his signature move, the “Lion’s Roar,” he blew VirtuaReal’s doors wide open—and blew out a staff member’s eardrums in the process.

Here’s hoping our lion’s singing blows everyone away, too. (So says the staff member hospitalized with a workplace injury.)

• Era

What is life like for a fox who has lived for thousands of years? Cultivating immortality? Seeking enlightenment? Nope—wrong on both counts. To this fox, named Era, nothing matters more than getting a good night’s sleep.

Just as the circle shrinks in a battle royale game, the fox clan’s territory keeps getting smaller, and even the modest wish of finding a quiet place to sleep in peace has become too much to ask. All that sleeping has made Era forget a few spells that didn’t seem very important—but when it comes to spells for falling asleep fast, Era knows every one by heart.

So, will VirtuaReal turn out to be a place where Era can sleep soundly?

• SUI

“Hello, everyone. I’m SUI. It’s a pleasure to meet you, and I look forward to working with you. And that concludes my self-introduction…”

“Hm? Too short? Is that a problem…?”

The white-haired girl across the table looked uneasy, then went on to explain:

“My family always says I should have virtues like being calm and reserved, so lately I’ve been relearning how to talk.”

The interviewer opened the résumé in hand. Mm-hm. This one’s a bird.

“My family also says that no matter how nice my singing is, if I talk too much, it all just turns into noise. But forcing a bird to be calm and reserved is just way too hard—”

“I long for freedom! I want to make noise! I just can’t take it anymore—”

The interviewer closed the résumé, took a good look at SUI, then glanced at the clock on the wall, and finally, calmly, adjusted their glasses.

“So I want to get out there and see the world. Who knows, maybe it’ll do me some good? If I ever get too excited, be sure to remind me! It’s a promise!”

Yep—the cuckoo clock really does need a new bird.
