VirtuaReal’s new members revealed! We’re always recruiting~

October is almost here, and the weather is turning cool.

Even more new members have joined VirtuaReal!

So who are the new faces you’re about to meet?

Before you’re formally introduced,

get to know them a little in this article first.

Yog

Yog is a notorious oddball at an elite private academy. He almost never joins any club activities and is always coming and going in a hurry, and since he comes across as aloof—even a little sinister—his classmates keep a respectful distance. In truth, though he has a bit of a devious streak, Yog is definitely not a bad guy.

He skips social events and clubs mainly because he has neither the time nor the money. Rumor has it that he comes from a mysterious, wealthy family—how else could he afford the steep tuition? Still, he at least has to cover his own living expenses, so after school he hurries off to his part-time job. Only when he gets home after a long day and shuts the door of his tiny apartment does Yog return to his true form: a master web surfer, otherwise known as an otaku. But unlike your average otaku, there’s no door or wall in the virtual world that can keep him out.

Yet even with a lifestyle like this, Yog still managed to make a new friend. It all began one damp, bone-chilling southern winter, when, out of Yog’s custom-made “air conditioner,” a handsome prince from another world came riding in on a warm breeze.

Keke

A young prince from a desert kingdom, Keke has no interest whatsoever in the throne or in power. All he wants is to be an adventurer who travels far and wide, crossing the endless yellow sands to see the dazzling world that legend says lies beyond the desert. His last journey, however, took him a little too far. Keke sums up the mishap in a single sentence: “Don’t go wandering through strange doors.”

After crossing over through the portal Yog had opened into the desert to heat his room for the winter, Keke thought a thrilling adventure in another world was beckoning. Instead, he was dealt the hardest blow of his adventuring career: by comparison, this world was far too peaceful and safe, and everywhere he went, someone else had already planted their flag. Luckily, just as disappointment set in, Yog opened yet another door for him—one that led into the world of anime.

“I have no idea what I’m looking at, but I’m blown away! My gut tells me this is way more fun than traveling!”

Hunger

Know a demon’s true name, and it becomes far easier to banish. That’s why “Hunger” is merely a code name for this greater demon, the most talented eater in the entire demon realm. Seeking out ever more novel and delicious food is Hunger’s most important pursuit. Though he has the power to devour the whole world in a single bite, where to start eating is still a choice that, however trivial, has to be made. To settle the matter, he went to see a fortune-teller.

“Now then, I wish to know where I should begin tasting this world.”

“According to my prophecy, you should head east and seek out a place called VirtuaReal. But my prophecy… Hey, wait, let me finish!”

Hunger paid no attention to the rest of what she said. All he needed was a name; the finer details were completely beside the point. But just as he was about to take a bite out of the VR building, a girl with black twin tails put a stop to his misbehavior. After some friendly negotiations, Hunger ended up joining VR. Before he could even ask what he was supposed to do next, the girl had vanished—though he could have sworn he heard her say, “This demon is a little too strong. We need to find a hero to keep him in check.”

Uka

Over the course of his career, Uka has saved the world more than a hundred times, leaving behind hope, love, and endless legends! The spoils he’s won slaying demon kings are already piled to the rafters in his little log cabin. But he no longer cares about any of those achievements! Every blade dulls one day, and today, he’s laying his cards on the table.

“Chief, I really appreciate the thorough quest briefing, but don’t you think something’s off about this world of ours? How could a normal world possibly face a world-ending crisis every three days? Doesn’t the hero even get Saturdays off? Forget it, none of that matters anymore. Today, this hero has decided to retire.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, let’s talk this over. At least wait until you’ve collected your year-end bonus!”

“You fed me the same line three years ago. Three years, and then another three years… I don’t care. My resignation letter is already written.”

“Then let me throw in one final quest. Wait, don’t go—hear me out! It’s an off-site assignment, so you won’t even have to come back and report when you’re done. I’ll pay the rewards for both quests up front. How about it?”

Uka’s mind was made up, but the reward was just too generous to turn down, and the village chief’s pitch sounded reasonable enough. Little did he know the very first battle would be harder than he could ever have imagined. Even with a hundred battles under his belt, Uka found himself in the direst straits he had ever faced!

Fortunately, before running out of healing items, Uka managed to add yet another demon king to his kill list!

With the quest complete, the next quest scroll unfurled. Then came a flash of white light, and when Uka opened his eyes, he was standing at the entrance of the VirtuaReal building—and the quest scroll in his hand had turned into a contract, already signed and sealed.
